Professor Weibiao Zhou, the Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology at the National University of Singapore, will be here on Friday, September 22nd. He will give a presentation on “Food Science Landscape and Career Opportunities in Singapore” at noon - 1:30 pm in the Sensory Theater.

We invite everyone in the RMI complex to join us.

Influencer Bootcamp

Viticulture and Enology

On July 27th and 28th, the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis hosted its second Influencer Bootcamp. The purpose of the influencer bootcamp is to bring people who have an interest in wine together at UC Davis for an immersion into both the technical and production aspects of grape growing and winemaking. To grow our brand (and get more influencers, consumers, and potential students interested in what we do), we ask the influencers to post about the bootcamp on social media through photos, videos, blog posts, podcasts and more.

"Grape vs. Grain" event at Sudwerk Brewing Co., September 6, 2023

On September 6th, 2023, Sudwerk Brewing Co. will host a "Grape vs. Grain" event. David Block, Professor and Chair, UC Davis Department of Viticulture & Enology, and Charlie Bamforth, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, UC Davis Department of Food Science and Technology, will have a healthy debate about the two beverages.

Xiran Li wins first place at IFT Grad Student Oral Competition!

Graduate student Xiran Li, from Dr. Luxin Wang’s research lab, won first place at the IFT Division Graduate Student Oral Competition 2023 in Chicago. She presented at the Aquatic Food Division; her presentation was titled “Factors shaping microbial communities present on fish and fish products”. (You can read the abstract online.)

Spring 2023 Extension Summary

Viticulture and Enology

The UC Davis Viticulture and Enology Extension Team has been quite active since January. We hosted a booth in the exhibit hall at the Unified Symposium in Sacramento (January 25 and 26, 2023) and a reception at the Hyatt for alumni, students, faculty, and friends on the Wednesday evening of the Unified Symposium in Sacramento (January 25, 2023). It was so great to visit with everyone that stopped by the booth or attended the reception!
