Winter 2023 Extension Update

The extension team in the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis was so happy to finally be able to honor Roger Boulton for his years of service to the university and the wine industry on November 7, 2022. We had close to 200 people in attendance (in person and virtually) at the UC Davis Conference Center. Ted Rieger wrote a great summary of the day which can be found here.

Our first UC Davis Viticulture and Enology “On the Road” extension program for the 2022-23 academic year was held in Redding, CA (Shasta County), at the McConnell Foundation on November 17, 2022. The program was originally supposed to take place in 2021 but was postponed due to high COVID case numbers in Shasta County at that time. We were so glad to be able to finally visit and share information with growers and vintners. The program agenda can be found  here.

We have been planning lots of upcoming events for 2023! The first event we will host is the reception for alumni, students, faculty, and friends on the Wednesday evening of the Unified Symposium in Sacramento (January 25, 2023). Registration is now open for that event. For more information and to register, please click here. We will also be hosting a booth in the exhibit hall, so come visit us at Booth# 930 on both January 25 and 26, 2023. Our UCD V&E On the Road programs continue in Tulare County at the Tulare County Cooperative Extension Office in Tulare on February 15th. For more information and to register, please click here. We will then host a program on the UCD campus centered around Wine Spoilage on February 22 (Register here) and then we'll bring researchers On the Road to Mendocino County at the Hopland Research and Extension Center on February 28. On March 9, we will be on the road in San Joaquin County at the Grape Festival Grounds, and then on March 15, we will be back on campus, hosting RAVE (Recent Advances in Viticulture and Enology), which is a more in-depth research seminar, occurring every other year, it showcases the most up-to-date research and includes student posters and flash talks. In April we will have an on-campus program centered around climate change and then the final Spring on-campus seminar will honor the career of Professor Andrew Waterhouse, on May 31, 2023. Over the summer, we will host a Grape Day at the Kearney Ag Center in Parlier on August 8. Be sure to put these events on your calendar and check our events page often, for additional programs, updated information, and registration links.  We are thankful for the AVF extension grants we have received and for the additional support we receive through our Extension and Industry Relations Partnership Program donors. In addition to in-person programs, we will offer a few Office Hours programs with various V and E professors throughout 2023.
