A big congratulations to Dr. Maria Marco's lab for their Grand Prize win in the UC Safety Services 2024 Laboratory Safety Awards Program!  The Marco lab was the semi-finalist for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and won the grand prize against five other semi-finalists; one each from the College of Letters & Science, the College of Biological Sciences, the College of Engineering, the School of Veterinary Medicine and the School of Medicine.

The winner is chosen by committee members using a combination of inspection findings and questionnaires submitted by safety professionals with whom the labs regularly interact. There are also "extra credit" questions to answer. Marco shared that her lab maintains an active text chat so that they can report any urgent safety matters quickly.

In addition to the accolades, the award includes a $6,000 prize. An awards ceremony to honor all the winners will be held on October 22nd. Marco lab is featured on the Lab Safety Awards website, along with the other winners.

We are deeply grateful for the recognition of our efforts to maintain the highest standards of laboratory safety. Our lab truly benefited from the FST department’s commitment to providing a safe working environment. I also want to give a special thanks to all my students and staff for prioritizing lab safety and their work to sustain it on a daily basis. - Dr. Maria Marco

To all the Marco lab members, thanks for doing your part for laboratory safety!  Remember to"Think Safe. Act Safe. Be Safe."
