Post-doctoral research position: Analytical Chemistry of Smoke Exposure, Viticulture and Enology

Description:
The Oberholster Laboratory in the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with extensive expertise in Analytical Chemistry, especially LC-MS/MS.
The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in chemistry, with emphasis on using chromatography (GC and HPLC) and mass spectrometry to quantify various analytes in complex mixtures. Experience in aerosol complex mixtures and viticulture and enology is a plus. The research project focusses on the impact of grape smoke exposure on grape and wine composition. Kinetics of absorption, impact of genotype as well as the impact of different vineyard and winemaking treatments will be investigated. The postdoc will be responsible for developing and optimizing instrument methodologies, collecting samples, data analysis and disseminating findings via presentations and peer-reviewed publications.

Qualifications:
A successful candidate should meet the following requirements:

 

  • A recent Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or related field with extensive experience in analytical chemistry
    • Experience in method development using GC and/or HPLC
    • Experience with sample preparation (extractions etc.)
    • Experience with standard calibration procedures
    • Experience with mass spectrometry analysis and interpretation
    • Communication through presentations
    • Prepare peer-reviewed publications
    • Experience in aerosol complex mixtures is a plus
    • Experience in viticulture and enology is a bonus but not essential
       

Salary:
Salary and benefits are consistent with UC Davis policy and are commensurate with applicant experience. As reference, salary for a 1st year Postdoc is $53,460 with full benefits. Benefits for postdoctoral scholars at UC Davis include health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as an employer-contributed retirement plan.

Term of appointment:

The appointment is 100% for one-year, renewable for at least one year subject to satisfactory progress.
