The Junior Specialist will report directly to principal investigator and work with undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral scholars, and visiting scientists in the Marco laboratory. This laboratory is investigating the functions of beneficial microorganisms in food production and human health. Lactic acid bacteria required for the production of fermented foods or confer health benefits in the human gut are of particular interest. This position offers an opportunity to build managerial and technical expertise in elucidating host-microbe interactions that are associated with improving human health. 

The Junior Specialist must hold a bachelors or masters degree in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, or related field and have previous experience in a research laboratory. The qualified individual will already have or be willing to acquire standard certifications required for work in a UC laboratory. 

Candidate must be an efficient, selfmotivated individual with excellent organizational skills and training and background in molecular biology. The applicant should have prior experience in microbiology, immunology, animal handling, and/or human cell culturing techniques. 

Salary: $3,082/mo; $36,984/yr plus benefits when eligible. 

Position is available 10/1/15. The position duration is 24 months, through 9/30/17.
