Congratulations to the UC Davis IFT College Bowl team for taking first place in the regional competition! They will advance to the final at IFT FIRST in Chicago, July 12-15th, where they'll compete again seven other regional winners.
From the IFT College Bowl website: Since 1985, the College Bowl Competition has tested the knowledge of student teams from across the United States in the following areas: food science and technology, the history of foods and food processing, food law, and general IFT/food-related trivia. The College Bowl is designed to facilitate interaction among students from different universities and provides a forum for students to engage in friendly competition.
FST graduate student (M.S. candidate, Bell lab) and team captain Angela Weber, who recruited the team members, shares her thoughts:
I am so impressed and proud of our team this year. Our team was built from scratch, with our undergraduates having no prior College Bowl experience. They showed enthusiasm and picked up the information quickly. College Bowl has greatly shaped both my undergraduate and graduate experience, and I hope our team will inspire more student involvement in IFT activities at UC Davis.
I'd also like to give a shout out to Elen. Elen has been amazing and has been an integral part of making this team a success. She will be taking over from me as captain either next year or for the upcoming nationals competition.
Good luck at IFT First to the UC Davis team!
