The Department of Food Science and Technology is pleased to announce that Linda J. Harris, Professor of Cooperative Extension, was elected to the rank American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow by the Council of AAAS. 

Each year the Council elects members whose “efforts on behalf of the advancement of science, or its applications, are scientifically or socially distinguished.” Professor Harris is being honored “For distinguished contributions to the field of food safety microbiology especially related to control of Salmonella and other pathogens in low-moisture foods and fresh produce.

The honor of being elected a Fellow of AAAS began in 1874. Professor Harris is the sixth AAAS Fellow from the UC Davis Department of Food Science and Technology and the first Professor of Cooperative Extension in the department to be so recognized. The other five are: Eugene Jack, 1940; Chester Roadhouse, 1940; John Whitaker, 1998; Barbara Schneeman, 2002; and James Seiber, 2013; pictured at top in order from left to right with Linda J.
