EH&S April 2015 DSC "Safety Notes"
1. Needle stick and sharps injury prevention: Provide a refresher to employees handling sharps by advising them to review, print their name and date/sign SafetyNet#62.
2. Cal/OSHA roofing operations: From 2012 to 2014 Cal/OSHA conducted 126 post-injury investigations of roofing operations and found over 75% of employers were in violation of Cal/OSHA safety fall protection regulations. 3. Report an Unsafe Condition: You can report an unsafe issue that is not getting addressed internally within your department at this Safety Services link.
4. Online Ergonomic Assessments: Employees may self-assess their posture and PC work station positioning by completing an online ergonomic assessment.
5. Lockout/Tagout written procedures: EH&S can demonstrate the UCOP-licensed Simple But Necessary software for developing written LOTO procedures for individual equipment (8 CCR 3314 (g). Contact EH&S (rawachter@ucdavis.edu or 754-4605).
6. Heat Illness Prevention: Cal/OSHA has published the awaited guidance document for heat regulation changes expected to take effect on May 1, 2015. EH&S is currently updating PPM 290-52, the Heat Illness Prevention Procedures Manual and Heat Illness Prevention Training PowerPoint. 7. Forklift & Aerial Lift Train-the-Trainer (TTT): EH&S has funding for forklift and aerial lift train-the-trainer training for employees assigned by their department to train forklift drivers or aerial lift operators. The training will be scheduled in the next 6-8 weeks. Please contact rawachter@ucadvis.edu (754-4605) with your departments trainer names (limit 1-2 per department).
8. Pallet Jack training: Ensure that all individuals using a pallet jack have documented training on the safe operation of the jack. Training guidelines can generally be found in the owners manual, but if assistance is need contact rawachter@ucadvis.edu (754-4605).
