Greetings Community!
The 41st Asian Pacific Culture Week celebrates the contributions and visibility of the diverse Asian Pacific Islander community! The following events are brought to you by the Cross Cultural Center. Since its inception in 1973, Asian Pacific Culture Week (APCW) has provided the UC Davis campus with cultural programs designed to both educate and celebrate and has grown into an annual event anticipated by students, faculty, staff, and members of the Davis community alike. Events and programs will take place from April 2nd all the way through April 11! Come out and show support!
This year's theme for APCW is "We Will Be Seen, We Will Be Heard," in the hopes of empowering the API community and reminding ourselves that we are visible and we have a voice. The programs that are put on during APCW emphasize in some way or form our historically marginalized and underrepresented community's visibility and voice.

This event will be a discussion over interracial marriage and transnational marriage as well as understanding the interaction and communication between individuals of different culture. We hope to be able to have individuals from different cultures share their stories and examine the integration of different cultures in the US.
"Let's Take a Selfie!" API(A) Visibility Project

A Selfie is defined as A picture taken of yourself that is planned to be uploaded to Instagram, Facebook or other social media sites to be shared with friends and/or the public. The media and popular culture heavily influences people of color, especially the youth, on how their body should look like and it has led to more insecurities and even suicides. We will be talking about body positivity and how we should not be a victim to societys definition of beauty. In the later half of this workshop participants will be asked to participate in an activity that uses creative self expression as a form of empowerment. Participants will also be part of an API video visibility project to be shown at APCN. This workshop is a safe and brave space.
Effectively Managing Stress

A collaboration between CAPS and the Cross Cultural Center, that will provide a space for students to learn techniques to manage stress as well as mental health issues affecting the API community. This workshop will be interactive and experimental. Participants will learn more about using mindfulness, meditation and deep breathing skills to respond to stress.
SEA Mic

SEA Mic is hosted every year within APCW to provide a space for folks to celebrate and appreciate the Southeast Asian identity through various forms of both modern and traditional performance art. This event is open to all performers of all ethnicities and is not limited to any one. Come share and enjoy all the performances!
Domestic Violence in API Household

The purpose of this workshop is to raise awareness about domestic violence in API households, which is often invisibilized and educate participants about how race, gender, class, and other social constructs influence violence within the home and to have an open discussion about violence.

Asian American Association Film Festival and Davis InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is proud to present "Linsanity", the intimate and illuminating documentary that contextualizes those feverish weeks in the February of 2012, when basketball fans across the world were whipped into a frenzy and an epidemic of bad punning spread out across the news media, as an almost unknown and unrecognized backup point guard led the New York Knicks to an astonishing seven-game victory run.
Jeremy Lin needs no introduction, but his story certainly deserves to be told. The film, directed by Evan Jackson Leong, focuses on Lin pre-Linsanity, from his childhood to his rookie term in the NBA. Lin, a Bay Area native and the son of Taiwanese immigrants, is a man of faith and determination. Hi continuous struggle to become recognized in a sport that he has loved his entire life is both personal and universal. In sharing this film, we hope to inspire people to reach for their dreams, rather than doing what is expected from them by their families or society.

A collaboration between Yik'al Kuyum, Ethnic Studies Department, and Bridge: Pilipin@ Outreach & Retention showcasing API/Chi/Lat artwork along with a presentation on bringing awareness to the historic and cultural intersections of the API(A) and Chi/Lat community. We'll be examining historic movements such as the Delano Grape Strike.

A potential collaboration between Professor Susette Min from the Asian American Department and Olives from Asian & Pacific Islander Queers (APIQ). Professor Min's research interests include Asian American Literature, Ethnic American Literature, Asian American Art, contemporary art, and visual culture. APIQ is a student organization whose mission is to provide a safe, confidential space for students who identify as both API (Asian and/or Pacific-Islander) and LGBTQQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Queer, Intersex, Asexual)
Korean Culture Night

This program is hosted by the Korean American Student Association and Korean-American Scientists and Engineering Association to promote the traditional Korean culture through a series of events and activities so that guests can can learn about the culture in a fun and interactive way. There will be several booths with different activities or information regarding Korean culture along with short performances such as Korean traditional instruments and dances.

A collaboration between the Sikh Cultural Association (SCA), Middle East/South Asian (MESA) Program, and Muslim Student Association (MSA). This program will promote dialogue between adherents and followers of different faiths/non-faiths across various denominations in an informal way. They will get a chance to be exposed to various belief systems and find common themes. It will foster community building among members of various student communities. Tea and snacks will be served.
The Past is Present for Japanese Americans

This program is will be a collaboration between the Japanese American Student Society and Bakuhatsu Taiko Dan and Professor Caroline Valverde with the purpose of spreading awareness of the past injustice that Japanese Americans faced being stowed away to internment camps. By highlighting the details about internment that are not included in any textbook, we strive to ensure that such a racist action taken by the government never happens again.
