We just opened a remote rental car location at the North Entry parking structure under our UC Drive carshare program. I believe this location will be very convenient for CA&ES staff and offers hourly rates in addition to full or multiple day reservations. These vehicles are available 24/7 via online or kiosk reservation, and may be used as a primary transportation source or as a backup to the standard fleet reservation vehicles. If there is an appropriate venue to reach large numbers of staff, we can arrange to have someone come out and provide a brief overview of the program or a more detailed training session on how to use UC Drive. We also have handouts and online tutorials. http://fleet.ucdavis.edu/Dispatch/ucdrive
We have placed a brand new pickup truck there with the thought that it could be used as needed on an hourly basis to move equipment and supplies. Of course we have the full service reservation pool here at our location as well for all day or multiple day rentals. At the very least, I think every employee that needs to use campus vehicles should be enrolled in UC Drive. This gives them the option for hourly or after hours/holiday/weekend dispatch when our reservation desk may be closed. Whole day rentals from the motor pool are less expensive, but may not be available or as a fast or convenient. So we are hoping to provide our customers transportation options where they can select which mode best suits their needs for a particular trip.
Please let me know if we may be of any further assistance.
