Congratulations to Alyson Mitchell, who has been elected to a three-year term as a Councilor for the Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry of the American Chemical Society. Councilors represent their constituents as part of the governing body of the American Chemical Society. She was also elected to serve on the ACS Committee on Public Relations and Communications (CPRC).
As Alyson relates, “I joined the Agricultural and Food Chemistry Division (AGFD) of the American Chemical Society in 2001 after participating in serval meetings as a student. ACS is the largest scientific society in America and the meetings were intimidating. However, the members of the AGFD Division were very welcoming, fun and really encouraging of my scholarship. I knew I had found my home within ACS and joined the Division. The friendships that I developed with AGFD members are some of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I look forward to seeing my AGFD family twice a year at the National Meetings and working with them on the Executive Committee, of which I have been a member for 10+ years. I feel fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful society and look forward to my new roles within ACS and especially helping ACS improve public understanding and appreciation of chemistry’s contributions in their lives.”
