FST student wins spot in the Grad Slam Top 10

Mackenzie Batali is a 2nd year graduate student in FST.  She recently learned that she won a spot in the Grad Slam Top 10. The Grad Slam is an annual contest in which master’s and Ph.D. students across UC campuses – in disciplines ranging from hard sciences to humanities – compete to sum up their research for a general audience. Students should present the significance and fundamental points of their work at UC Davis in a clear, direct, and interesting manner.

FST Professor Maria Marco joins ISAPP board of directors

Congratulations to our own Dr. Maria Marco, who has just joined the board of directors of the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics! 

From the ISAPP website: "ISAPP is an association of academic and industrial scientists involved in research on fundamental and applied aspects of probiotics and prebiotics, and more broadly that of human microbiomes and gut health."

Assistant Professor Ned Spang named ASI Fellow Andrea Thompson December 20, 2018

Assistant Professor Ned Spang has been invited to be among the select group of “Fellows of the Agricultural Sustainability Institute.”  Dr. Spang was nominated based on his service to ASI and contributions to the types of research, education, and outreach valued at ASI.  Everyone invited to be designated as an ASI Fellow has made distinguished contributions in two or more of these categories.

Dr. Spang will celebrate this honor at the ASI Winter Party on Friday, January 17, 2019 at the Putah Creek Lodge after the ASI's annual External Advisory Board meeting.

Dr. David Mills on Global List of Most-Cited Researchers Andrea Thompson December 09, 2018

Clarivate Analytics has released its annual Highly Cited Researchers list for 2018, and FST's own Professor David Mills is one of 19 faculty from UC Davis on the prestigious list.

All of the UC Davis researchers are listed in a UCD News article by Andy Fell.  He explains, "the list identifies exceptional scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant influence by publishing multiple papers that rank in the top 1 percent by citations in a particular field and year, over a 10-year period."
