Yolo Women to Cook Home Recipes in UC Davis Lab Project Aims to Use Surplus Tomatoes to Develop Recipes and Product to Feed the Food-Insecure
Donning aprons and hairnets, 15 women from rural Yolo County will cook home recipes in a lab at the University of California, Davis, in an effort to use locally grown, surplus tomatoes to develop a nutritious product for the food-insecure.
Student Advisor Nicole Rabaud wins prestigious award
Congratulations are in order for Nicole Rabaud, who won the Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Advising, New Advisor 2017 from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Nicole is the supervising graduate advisor for the Departments of Viticulture & Enology and Food Science & Technology.
Professor Charlie Bamforth wins Stewardship Award
In recognition of faculty and staff efforts to build a culture of philanthropy, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations each year gives out awards for faculty stewardship, staff stewardship and lifetime achievement in stewardship. The office established these awards a year ago and recently held its second annual award presentation.

Dr. Kyria Boundy-Mills wins prestigious J. Roger Porter Award
Congratulations to Dr. Kyria Boundy-Mills, curator of the Phaff Yeast Culture Collection in the UC Davis department of Food Science and Technology, who has been awarded the prestigious J. Roger Porter Award by the American Society for Microbiology. This award "recognizes outstanding efforts by a scientist who has demonstrated the importance of microbial biodiversity through sustained curatorial or stewardship activities for a major resource used by the scientific community".
Professor Jean VanderGheynst Named a Congressional Woman of the Year
Congressman John Garamendi honored BAE professor Jean VanderGheynst during the 2016 Women of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday, October 13. The award recognizes outstanding women of the 3rd Congressional District.
BAE undergrads win World Food Center Video Challenge
Congratulations to Carlos Orozco-Gonzalez and Umayr Sufi who won the World Food Center's Video Challenge with their video that explains how one tool engineered at UC Davis is advancing the science behind drying and storing food in developing countries.

Recap of Oakville Station Seminar Series in July and August
Two seminars were held at the UC Davis Oakville Station in July and August in the Julio Gallo Conference room. The first focused on mechanistic modeling of vineyard terroir in north-central Italy, and the second dealt with climate change and drought.
