FST mourns the passing of Professor Emeritus David Reid
The Department was saddened to hear of Reid's passing on August 15. Dr. Reid had been retired since 2008, but remained active on campus with CIFAR. He also sat on scientific advisory committees and was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.
BAE Professor Ruihong Zhang named as ASABE Fellow
At the annual meeting of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) in July, Dr. Ruihong Zhang was named a Fellow of the organization for her outstanding contributions in the areas of waste conversion, bioenergy, and biofuel production.

Dr. Ben Montpetit is the Department's newest Assistant Professor, a Microbiologist/Yeast Biologist.

Donning aprons and hairnets, 15 women from rural Yolo County will cook home recipes in a lab at the University of California, Davis, in an effort to use locally grown, surplus tomatoes to develop a nutritious product for the food-insecure.

Current Developments in Vineyard Mechanization and Precision Viticulture
V&E Extension held a seminar and field day at the UC Davis campus called "Current Developments in Vineyard Mechanization and Precision Viticulture" on April 22, 2016. Some of the underlying themes included labor issues and the looming increases in California's minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2022.
